Saint of the Day 24 March: Celebrating the Lives of the Church’s Saints

Every day, the Catholic Church honors a saint or blessed who stood out for their faith, dedication, and love for God. The Saint of the Day is an opportunity for the faithful to learn more about the history of the Church and be inspired by the witness of these men and women who lived according to Christ’s teachings.

The Meaning of the Saint of the Day

The celebration of the Saint of the Day is a Church tradition that helps us remember those who were examples of faith and holiness. Saints may have been martyrs who gave their lives defending their faith, missionaries who spread the Gospel, or ordinary people who lived in deep communion with God through simplicity.

Learning about each saint’s story inspires us to live with more love, patience, and hope. It also reminds us that we are all called to holiness.

Why Do We Celebrate the Saints?

Saints serve as models of Christian life. Their stories show us that, despite challenges, it is possible to live according to God’s will. Moreover, the faithful often seek the intercession of saints, believing that they are close to God and can pray for our needs.

Following the Saint of the Day is a way to strengthen our spiritual journey and learn from those who dedicated their lives to serving God. May we follow their examples and strive each day to live with greater love, faith, and hope!

🙏 May today’s Saint of the Day intercede for us and inspire us to live according to God’s will!

This courageous Archbishop, martyred in 1980, became the “voice of the voiceless” in El Salvador. Assassinated while celebrating Mass, he shed his blood for “the redemption and resurrection” of his suffering people. His feast day is March 24.

  • “Since God is good, and especially to those who are faithful to him, let us hold fast to him with all our soul, our heart.” (Saint Ambrose)

  • “A baby, a manger. Simple things, the humility of God, this is the divine way, never a spectacle. It will do us good in this Lenten Season to think about how the Lord has helped us in our life, about how the Lord has made us go forward, and we will find that He has always done so with simple things.” (Francis)

  • “Jesus Christ is the one whom the Father anointed with the Holy Spirit and established as priest, prophet, and king. The whole People of God participates in these three offices of Christ.” (Catechism Of The Catholic Church, Nº 783)

  • These words reveal that Jesus’ failure was not entirely unexpected. He knew his people, he knew the heart of his people, he knew the risk he was running. He took rejection into account. And, so, we may ask ourselves: but if it was like this, if he foresaw a failure, why did he go to his home town all the same? Why do good to people who are not willing to accept you? It is a question that we too often ask ourselves. But it is a question that helps us understand God better. Faced with our closures, he does not withdraw: he does not put brakes on his love. Faced with our closures, he goes forward. We see a reflection of this in parents who are aware of the ingratitude of their children, but do not stop loving them and doing good to them, because of this. God is the same, but at a much higher level. And today he invites us too to believe in good, to leave no stone unturned in doing good. (Angelus, 30 January 2022)
